Municipal Planning Commission Meeting

The Municipal Planning Commission acts as the principal advisory body to Council in matters relating to land use planning, with the following functions:

  • to exercise development powers and duties on behalf of the City in accordance with the Subdivision and Development Authorities Bylaw
  • to exercise subdivision powers and duties on behalf of the City in accordance with the Subdivision and Development Authorities Bylaw; and 
  • to carry out such other functions and duties as may be assigned to the Commission by Council.

Members are elected to the Commission for a three-year term.

Southview Simpson Park - Public Engagement

The City is hosting a public engagement event to discuss the the Southview-Simpson Park Irrigation and Landscape Upgrade Project which is set to commence in May 2024 through October 2024. This initiative aims to rehabilitate the existing irrigation system, which is in need of an upgrade, and introduce alternative landscaping solutions that will enrich our community's green space.

The project's scope of work includes the upgrading of the irrigation system and the integration of alternative landscaping that is meant to enhance the park's ecological and aesthetic value. These changes are aimed at creating a more livable and sustainable environment, with benefits such as reduced water usage and increased biodiversity.

Here I Am - Can You See Me? Navigating the Legacy of the 60's Scoop

Join local Indigenous artist-storyteller Brenda Mercer for this FREE EVENT in the galleries to learn about an impactful and poignant topic, the 60s Scoop. Explore the profound artwork of Globally- acclaimed George Littlechild, Here I Am- Can You See Me? (who himself is a survivor of the 60s scoop), followed by a sharing circle and crafting keepsake pouches. Gathering together, sharing stories and crafting together is a way to honour the past, celebrate Indigenous culture and grow together in the present.

Brenda Mercer is an Indigenous artist-storyteller who has been sharing her knowledge for over a decade with communities situated on the traditional lands of the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Stoney-Nakoda, and Tsuut’ina as well as the Cree, Sioux, and the Saulteaux bands of the Ojibwa peoples, and homelands of the Metis Nation within region III. Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell: The Untold Love Story immerses audiences in the passionate but brief romance the iconic duo shared that shaped their songs, their lives and music history. It was 1967 at the Newport Folk Festival when the pair began an intense love affair that lasted only a few months but resulted in the inspiration for some of the most celebrated songs ever written. Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell: The Untold Love Story, will explore what happened during their time living together in California at the height of folk music’s popularity, falling in and out of love, and then moving on to become the most influential songwriters and storytellers of all time. The multi-media production will recount their mutual influence on each other’s works through stories and songs including the chart toppers “Hallelujah”, “Both Sides Now”, “Big Yellow Taxi” and “I’m Your Man” and many more. It’s a look at a romantic and creative relationship never before explored on stage.

The show features singer, songwriter, musician, and actress Dana Wylie who the renowned folk music magazine Penguin Eggs called the only artist whom they have “felt comfortable comparing to Joni Mitchell in the scope of her talent EVER” and singer, songwriter and poet Joe Nolan who was named by The Globe and Mail as “an Americana wunderkind to look out for.” The artists, who have won numerous awards, are inspired, influenced, and uplifted by Leonard and Joni and bring their love and passion for the icons to each performance.

 Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell: The Untold Love Story is produced by GNR Entertainment, the company behind the critically acclaimed musical portraits  “The Story Of Linda Ronstadt”, “Folsom Prison Revisited” and “Golden Ring: The Story of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, which consistently play to enthusiastic and sold-out audiences.
